Korean Fusion Menu for a Doljanchi
Check out these beautiful photos by Allison M. Cruz from a traditional Korean doljanchi or dol that we catered! A dol is a celebration of a child's first birthday and we created a Korean fusion menu to make the day special for everyone. (Above: Chap Chae Noodles with Beef)
The venue was the magical Japanese tea house and garden (which is still a private home) in Pasadena called Storrier Stearns. (Watch the video above!)

Bulgogi Beef Sliders with Kimchi Slaw
Lettuce Wrap Station with Spicy Minced Chicken and Asian Vegetable Stir Fry
Salted Caramel Fudge Cupcakes, Unicorn Rice Crispy Treats, and Strawberry Cupcakes
The dol culminates in the doljabi, a fortune-telling "game" that's supposed to predict the child's future. Parents put common objects on a table -- for example, a book, a coin, and a roll of thread. They encourage the child to choose one. If she picks the book, that means she will be very smart; the coin, that she will be wealthy; the thread, that she will have a long life.
The gorgeous florals on the dining tables were created by Gigi Saunders.
Beautiful event design and planning by Francesca. She created these centerpieces with the party themes of tigers, butterflies, feathers, and axes.
Francesca incorporated all those elements in a fairy-tale book she wrote and illustrated herself. Amazing!
